Stories of the Cross - March 2020

A source of youthful connection

The impact from our church’s comfort cross mission has been amazing.  First Church has strived to make them available to everyone that needs them.  From first-time worship visitors receiving them in our welcome mugs to parishioners grabbing a few for friends in need, they have made an impact on the lives of many adults.  However, for our youth, there hasn’t been the same connection.  The same cannot be said about cross necklaces.

For one of our youth, she has actually given out quite a few.  She has freely given them to her friends, classmates, and anyone else she encounters.  When she runs out, she knows she can get more from her church family.  For some of the recipients, it is just a fashion item.  For others, it is a sweet gift from a new or dear friend.  For others, it may just be the start they need to explore what it really means.

As adults, our faith journey is far from complete, but we all have many miles under our shoes.  For our youth, it is just beginning.  If these small wooden crosses can make a positive difference in their lives, then this mission of First Church Congregational will mean that much more.
