Music
Music has always held a special place in the life of First Church. Even under the strict disciplines of its Puritan founders, the singing of hymns by the congregation was considered an integral part of the worship service. Music brings joy, it creates community, and it moves us to faith and service. Our Minister of Music, in collaboration with the Pastor and congregation, seeks to create a worship experience that is joy-filled, spiritual, and calls us to make a difference in the world through Christ. We always welcome new choir members, bell ringers, and instrumentalists. Reach out to our Minister of Music to get involved or to learn more.
Minister of Music: Emile R "Mike" Boutin, Jr, EdD

Vocal Choir: The Chancel Choir, directed by our Minister of Music, and comprised of singers from High School through adult, is a very dedicated group, which enjoys singing a variety of musical selections and styles from simple hymns to world music; Africian American spirituals, Baroque, Renaissance, and comtempary composers like Lloyd Larson and Mary MacDonald. Additional voices are always welcome. Rehearsals are Sunday mornings beginning at 8:30 AM, and very occasionally mid week in preparation for Music Sundays.

Children’s Choir: Our Children's Choir performs a few times a year. This group helps build our youths' confidence while entertaining the congregation. It is open to all and requires little preparation or experience, just big smiles and a willingness to sing!

Handbell Choirs: Our First Church Bells provide handbell music a few times a year, for special music Sundays, and is led by Paul DeLabruere. The handbell choir is open to anyone interested in lerning the techniques of playing handbells.

Guest Instrumentalists: Throughout the year, instrumentalists are welcome to enrich our worship and music program. We are regularly joined by trumpets, flutes, cello, drums, and percussion.
