Membership at First Church Congregational

 

We invite you to consider becoming a member of First Church.  Here are some ways you may become formally connected to our church life.  Please speak to the pastor or a deacon to learn more about opportunities during the year to join First Church.

How Do You Want to join First Church Congregational?  

 

Affirmation of Faith (if you have been baptized but have never joined a church or if you have not been baptized, you may receive baptism at the time of your acceptance into membership.)

 

Re-Affirmation of Faith (if you have been baptized and you have been a member of another church but are not transferring membership)

 

Letter of Transfer  (currently member of another Protestant  church that is  willing to transfer your letter of membership)  If transferring your membership, please give us name/address of church so we may request the transfer of letter:                                                                                                              

Confirmation (an educational program for youth to affirm their baptism and become full members of First Church Congregational)

 

The Different Types of Membership at First Church Congregational:

 

Full Active Member.  (Active members may serve on committees and on the Church Board; they may vote at all First Church Congregational meetings. Active members are expected to attend worship regularly, participate in the life and ministries of First Church Congregational by sharing of their time and talent and financial support of the church its ministries.  They are expected to live by the example of Jesus Christ in word and deed.)

 

Associate Member.  (A member of another church may become an Associate Member of First Church Congregational.  Associate members shall have all rights and responsibilities of membership except that they may not serve as a member of the Church Board.)

 

Friend of First Church Congregational.  (Any individual who is not a  member and who participates in the life and ministries of First Church is considered to be a Friend of First Church Congregational.  Friends are encouraged to attend and share their thoughts at any regular open meetings, including annual and special congregational meetings. They may join many of the church committees, teams or groups. Friends may not vote any Annual Meeting or Special Congregational meetings nor join the following committees: The Behavioral Ethics, Church Board, Diaconate, Finance, Pastor Parish Relations or the Stewardship Team.)
